Result: Ziyad Almaayouf def. Ronald Martinez via unanimous decision (38-37, 38-37, 38-37)

After getting dropped in the first round, Almaayouf rallied back to outbox Martinez over the course of the next three rounds. Martinez did put on a tough fight and made Almaayouf work, but the cleaner, more technical boxer was Almaayouf.

Result: Badou Jack def. Ilunga Makabu via TKO (referee stoppage) – Round 12, 0:54 – to win WBC cruiserweight title.

Jack out boxed Makabu for the majority of the fight. Makabu did have his moments and connected clean several times, but Jack’sshots had more sting. Jackdropped Makabu twice throughout the fight. Clearly down on the scorecards, Makabu tried to chase down Jack and put together a late finish. However, in the process Makabu over-exposed himself, got caught with a big right hand that staggered him backwards. The referee had seen enough and waved off the fight.

Round 1: Here we go! Fury comes out firing and pressing Paul. Paul immediately clinching the fight down by clinching him. Paul keeps clinching Fury. Again and again. Quick hands by Fury. Over-hand right connects clean for Paul. Fury eats it well. Now Paul is on the offense. A lot of punches missing for Fury. Right hand to the body by Paul. Fury connects with a few good punches to end the round.

Round 2: These two are firing. No feeling out process. Oh! Good combo by Fury. Stiff jab by Fury, then an uppercut. More jabs by Fury. Fury staying elusive on the outside, but keeping his hands low. Good right hand by Paul. Fury with a much more mobile approach here. Good jab by Paul. That jab keeps landing for Fury. Fury is feeling good.

Round 3: Close fight so far. Evenly match contest. Trade jabs. Big right hand by Paul. Two stiff jabs connect for Paul. Oh! Fury eats a big left hook. And a right hook by Paul. Paul way more accurate in this round. Easily Paul’s best round. They trade jabs. They clinch and bell rings.

Round 4: Good jabs by Fury. Fury connects with several hooks, as he presses Paul. Good jabs by Paul. Fury is turning it up, he connects with a left and bangs up Paul’s guard. Good jab by Fury. Fury is back to countering and being mobile. A good left hook connects for Paul. More jabs by Fury. Fury’s hands are very low. They trade shots, but nothing major lands.

Round 5: A couple of hard jabs for Paul. A lot of clinching here. Big right hand by Paul, but Fury fires one back too. Oh and the referee takes one point away from Paul for striking the back of the head. Hard left hook by Paul. Fury seems stunned. Paul putting on the pressure. Good jab by Paul. A lot of clinching again. Big right hand for Fury. Jab by Paul.

Round 6: Big left by Paul. He’s definitely landed the bigger shots. Uppercut by Fury. Another uppercut by Fury! Paul clinching plenty here. Good jab by Fury. Paul’s left eye is a little busted up. Paul keeps clinching Fury. The referee now takes a point away from Fury. Not clear why. Good jab by Fury. Fury finishes the round strong and connects good combo.
